Partnerships & Collaborations
Our approach is never solitary - democratization begins with group efforts, resource-sharing and like-minded values.
At JINA Alliance, we put into action the principle that "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts."
Whether the cause is supporting a democratic future for Iran, ending gender apartheid in Afghanistan, standing with the people of Tibet, calling for an end to female genital mutilation, advising on environmental and social responsibility, demanding an end to child and forced labor, advocating for the rights of Uyghur people, or any other global human rights issue - JINA Alliance seeks to build bridges and partnerships to help end these worldwide crises.
Today, our collaborative projects continue with deep commitment and without end. A sampling of current projects includes, among others: supporting advocates working on Uyghur human rights, drafting U.S. legislation for educational advocacy, collaborating on a global art exhibition on oppressive regimes, joint research on cyber warfare by the Islamic Republic of Iran against human rights activists, and working with Afghan advocacy groups to support the campaign to end gender apartheid in Afghanistan and Iran.
This work is only possible with the support of our donors and members. Consider making a contribution today to support the ongoing, impact-driven work of JINA Alliance.
Past Collaborations
In February 2025, together with Right to Learn, a Canadian NGO centered on ending gender apartheid in Afghanistan, JINA Alliance developed and co-hosted the first-ever U.S. congressional briefing on gender apartheid in Afghanistan and Iran. JINA Alliance envisioned the original concept of a U.S. and Canadian collaboration in the late Summer of 2024, and knew that the moment was right to begin U.S. advocacy specific to recognizing gender apartheid as a legal concept under U.S. law. JINA Alliance led the outreach to, communications with and ultimate inclusion of Afghan human rights defenders in the program. We are deeply proud of being the first-mover in U.S. advocacy for gender apartheid, and are continuing to support international efforts to codify gender apartheid through our educational advocacy at the national level in the United States.
In May 2024, JINA Alliance partnered with four other nonprofit organizations to advocate for the introduction of the TOOMAJ (Targeting Oppressive Officers to Mitigate Against Abuse in the Iranian Judiciary) Act in U.S. Congress. An earlier draft of the bill had been publicly released in social media by Iranian activists, but had not received meaningful attention in the U.S. Congress. Thanks to the efforts of JINA Alliance and our partners, the draft concept of the TOOMAJ Act was updated to reflect the status of Toomaj Salehi's case, expanded with new sections including a dedication to Nika Shakarami, and followed with our diligent educational advocacy in Congress. These efforts culminated in the bipartisan introduction of the bill as H.R. 8586 on May 31, 2024, five weeks after our educational efforts began in Congress, and helped to support the overturning of the death sentence of Iranian political dissident and rapper Toomaj Salehi.
In October 2023, members of today's JINA Alliance collaborated with three other nonprofit organizations to develop the first-ever U.S. congressional briefing focused on the crackdown on medical professionals by the Islamic Republic during the 2022-2023 Woman Life Freedom protests. This briefing featured the expertise of medical practitioners, such as emergency physician Dr. Dean Aubin, who was able to describe physician-specific methodologies to refute claims made by the Islamic Republic against injured or killed protestors. The radiology expert panelist at the briefing, Dr. Golnaz K. Aubin, discussed advancing technological methods to detect previously undetectable levels of abuse and torture. Other expert discussions included the intentional blinding of Iranian protestors, and how the crackdown by the Islamic Republic caused medical practitioners to go underground, secretly visiting patients' homes at great risk to themselves.
